On Custom Icons:
Creating a custom icon or logo to identify your website is a simple and effective way to make your site a little more personal. To do
so, you need only create the icon and add some very basic code to your index page. The image must be 16x16 pixels in size and saved as an
icon (*.ico), otherwise, the image will be ignored by the browser.
If you don't have a program that will generate .ico files, all is not lost. Using the generator below, simply select a picture, logo, or other graphic of any
size/resolution for the "Source Image" and click "Generate FavIcon". The image will be automatically sized and formatted to be used
as an icon. Source files must only be gif, jpg, png, ico, or bmp formats.
Selecting "Generate FavIcon" will launch the FavIcon site in a new window. From there, select "Download FavIcon" and your icon will be saved to your pc.
To add your icon to your website, you must only:
- Upload favicon.ico to the root directory of your domain
- Add the following HTML tag to the you head of your site:
<link rel="shortcut icon" href="favicon.ico" >
That's it! To test your new icon in Internet Explorer 5+, bookmark your web page and reopen the page. To test it in Netscape 6+ or other
Mozilla 1+ based browser, simply open your web page and watch the address bar or the page tab.
